Flashback of Semen Gresik's 2020 CSR: Allocate Billions of Rupiahs for Handling COVID, Innovative CSR Programs, and Public Appreciation

Rembang, January 7, 2021 – Throughout 2020, PT Semen Gresik (SG) had proven itself a committed company that cares about the environment and the social community through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program.

The Head of Communication and CSR Unit of PT Semen Gresik, Dharma Sunyata, claimed that the company's CSR was conducted through analysis and social mapping probing which provided an accurate overview of the potential, needs, and the local situation mapping.

"Therefore, the planning and management of our CSR programs are right on target and able to empower the community optimally," said Dharma in a press release (7/1).

Dharma continued that the disbursed total allocation of CSR funds reached IDR14.2 billion and was realized through various SG Pillar programs divided into SG Cerdas(education), SG Lestari (environment), SG Mandiri (economy), SG Peduli (social), and SG Sehat (health). One of the CSR programs that became SG's primary concern was the effort to respond quickly to the Covid-19 pandemic, budgeted up to IDR3.724 billion.

As a part of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. or SIG, Semen Gresik also implemented the Civil Society Forum Empowerment program, with a budget allocation of IDR1.750 billion. The program included road infrastructure development to facilitate transportation and connect regions.

Dharma explained that this infrastructure development aimed to improve the people's economy, facilitate access to education, and health access affordability for the community. Hence, it had a direct impact on increasing their welfare. "Apart from the road infrastructure development, this program also includes improvement on public infrastructures, such as bridge renovation, which is a vital facility for the community," said Dharma.

Moreover, several programs aimed to improve local residents' economic welfare, such as the Integrated Plantation, Agriculture, Fisheries, and Livestock program (P4T) with an allocation of more than IDR886 million. "Our P4T program in 2020 received an award at the 2020 Millennials Innovation Summit held by the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises of the Republic of Indonesia," said Dharma.

Semen Gresik also paid attention to the nation's next-generation education by providing scholarships called Beasiswa Prasejahtera (BEST) program for the underprivileged and outstanding students. Dharma explained that this scholarship was prioritized for people in the Rembang Regency area to increase their enthusiasm for learning and studying to reach a better future.

"The BEST program is spread out for students at the Elementary School, Junior High School, Senior/Vocational High School, and also Vocational levels. Until 2020, PT Semen Gresik has assisted 408 beneficiaries," said Dharma.

In addition, the CSR program of PT Semen Gresik also targeted improving the quality of school learning facilities in the factory area. It also provided several insights related to the industrial sector regarding Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) to improve education quality.

Dharma continued that SG also paid special attention to students through the Semen Gresik Sahabat Santri program, which aimed to prepare a religious generation of Muslims committed to the Quran as the source of behavior, reference, and foundation in all matters in life.

"The Semen Gresik Sahabat Santri Program has spread in six villages around PT. Semen Gresik by accommodating the establishment of 10 TPQs (Quran learning center) with a total of 508 students and 31 Quran teachers to assist the learning process, "said Dharma.

Dharma explained that the CSR program conducted by Semen Gresik received high appreciation from the community around the company. This is based on the Community Satisfaction Index (CSI), reaching 82.13 percent.

The CSI results were obtained by taking surveys directly to the community in six villages around the company, namely Kajar, Timbrangan, Pasucen, Tegaldowo, Kadiwono, and Ngampel.

"The percentage value equals the satisfactory achievement. The survey was conducted from October to November 2020 by involving the Directorate of Community Service at Gadjah Mada University, "said Dharma closed.
